What is considered Junk Food??
The definition of Junk food is different for everyone but for the purpose of this challenge, Junk Food is basically any pre-prepared, processed, or packaged food that have little to no nutritional value.
So generally, the list of junk foods may include (but are not limited to…)
• Soft drinks and yes, Alcohol too
• Chips and fries
• Lollies / Candy
• Chocolate…
• High calorie menu choices at fast-food chains.
• Ice blocks / Ice creams
Healthy alternatives to Junk Food!!
Giving up junk food does not have to be a massive adjustment – here are some ideas on how you can switch one unhealthy item for a healthier one!
Instead of:
• Soft drinks – try sparkling water with lemon or a fresh fruit mocktail with sparkling water.
• Chips and fries – perhaps make your own at home in an oven/air fryer using sweet potato or kale.
• Lollies / Candy – they do say fruit is nature’s candy!
• Chocolate – what about Dark chocolate, you may ask?
• High calorie menu choices – opt for the salads or low calorie menu choices instead.
• Ice blocks / Ice creams – Make your own with freshly squeezed fruit juice!
